The 9th Plenary Session the Asian Parliamentary Assembly proceeded smoothly from 28th November to 2 December 2016 at Sokha Siem Reap hotel, which was held under the theme of “Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development in Asia” with the participation of the delegations from 23 APA member countries, successfully closed in the afternoon of 1 December 2016.
During the inaugural ceremony held in the afternoon of 28 November 2016, His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia, sent a royal message of congratulations to the plenary session, while the top leaders of the Kingdom of Cambodia, namely Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY CHHUM, President of the Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, graced the event with their great presence and keynote addresses...

APA Delegations Agree to Raise the Issue of Financial Contribution for Further Discussion During the Next APA Plenary Session in 2017

The meeting of Standing Committee on Staff and Financial Regulations, which was attended by APA delegations, was held at Sokha Siem Reap hotel convention center in the morning of 1 December 2016, agreed to put the issue of financial contributions of APA members to support the APA secretariat on table again during the next APA plenary session, which is scheduled to take place in 2017 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

The APA Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs held its meeting at Sokha Siem Reap hotel convention center in the morning of 1 December 2016 to focus mainly upon environmental issues. The meeting was chaired by the head of the delegation from Bahrain in the attendance of delegations from APA member parliaments, including the Cambodian parliamentary delegation, headed by H.E. Mr. Mam Bunneang.

The APA Standing Committee Meeting on Political Affairs To Deepen Cooperation and Fight Terrorism and Violent Extremism

The APA Standing Committee Meeting on Political Affairs held its meeting at Sokha Siem Reap hotel on 1st December 2016. The meeting was chaired Mian Raza Rabbani, President of the Senate of Pakistan, with H.E. Mr. Nhem Thavy, the representative of the Cambodian parliamentary delegation acting as vice-chair, and H.E. Mr. Nocolaos Tarnaritis, head of the delegation of Cyprus, as rapporteur, and His Excellency APA Deputy Secretary General as moderator.

H.E. Mr. Chheang Vun was leading parliamentary delegations from APA member countries for an all-day tour through ancient temples in the Angkor archaeological park

H.E. Mr. Chheang Vun, Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and head of the Cambodian delegation attending the 9th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, which is being held in Siem Reap province, was leading parliamentary delegations from APA member countries for an all-day tour through ancient temples in the Angkor archaeological park, the UNESCO world heritage site, in Siem Reap province on 30 November 2016.

The Chairman said the visit is a strategy to promote tourism and draw more foreign tourists to visit Cambodia’s ancient temples which are regarded as the priceless national treasures.

29 November 2016, The Special Commission on Establishing the Asian Parliament met today to discuss the mechanism to transform the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) into the Asian Parliament (AP). The meeting was held in the afternoon of 29th November 2016 during which the parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia is hosting the 9th plenary session of the APA in Siem Reap province.

In the afternoon of 26 September 2016, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly 1st Executive Council Meeting continued its meeting to discuss the 9 draft resolutions of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E Dr. Nguon Nhel, Second Vice President of the National Assembly and President of the Organizing Committee of the 9th APA Plenary Session, and the head of the Chinese delegation.

The Special Committee Meeting of APA Women Parliamentarians Agrees To Submit Its Draft Resolution to the 9th Plenary Session for Adoption

29 November 2016, The Special Committee Meeting on APA Women Parliamentarians held its meeting on 29 November 2016 to discuss the Draft Resolution on APA Women Parliamentarians to be submitted to the 9th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly for adoption on 1 December 2016.
On the occasion, H.E. Mrs. Khuon Sudary, Chairwoman of Women’s Caucus of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who chaired the meeting, said the aim of the meeting was to beef up the participation and representation of women in APA framework, focusing on promoting peace and sustainable development. She added that the meeting discussed the role of women in political, social, cultural and economic affairs, especially the active participation of women in decision-making process and in mechanisms to promote the advancement of women, including the empowerment of women in playing an important role in all the fields of development.

APA To Encourages Internal Solidarity for Peace, Denounce Wars and Violence

Dr. Ngoun Nhel, 2nd Vice-President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, in the attendance of the parliamentary delegations from 23 APA member countries in Asia.
